Skullys Instructions
Setup
Skullys is played by two to five players for singles play or up to ten players in team play. The game is played with the Skullys game mat and the included playing pieces. The playing area should include plenty of unobstructed smooth floor/ground space around the mat. Objective Each player shoots and lands his/her playing piece inside each of the numbered boxes in order along the outside edges of the Skullys mat (edge boxes #1 to #12), then into the #13 center box. After landing on #13, the players then shoot their pieces into each of the boxes in reverse order (edge boxes #12 to #1). The winner is the last player “alive” after landing his/her playing piece on every square in sequence (#1 to #13 and back to #1). Rules of Play Each player selects a playing piece and use “odds or evens” or rock-paper-scissors to determine the order of play. Any other preferred method can be used to determine the order of play. Players choose a starting line at least 4-6 ft. or farther away from any side of the mat. Playing pieces are shot onto the game mat aiming for the large group of numbered center boxes (1, 2, 3, 4 or 13). If the player’s piece lands on any one of the center boxes, they continue playing. If not, the next player takes a turn, aiming to get their playing piece inside one of the numbered center boxes. When a player’s piece lands within any of the center boxes, they then shoot the playing piece into the boxes along the outside edges of the mat, starting with box #1. If a piece lands completely inside a box and no part of the piece is outside the edge of the box, it’s called a “pop box”. If the player gets a pop box, he/she picks up the playing piece and places it anywhere within the next box in sequence (#2) then shoots it toward the next box (#3, #4 and so on). If the piece does not land inside the box, that player’s turn is over and the next player goes. During play, if any player's piece lands in the center boxes labeled 1,2,3 or 4 (called the "Dead Zone"), the player needs to remain there until another player knocks them out. The player who knocks a player's piece out of the Dead Zone, moves their piece the same number of boxes, either forward or backwards. (Example: the player will progress 4 boxes if they knock a player out of center box 4 in the Dead Zone).
| Once a player’s piece has passed in and out any of the center boxes (steps 2 and 3), they may aim at any opponent’s piece, “sending” them off the board. If the piece hits an opponent’s piece, they advance to the next box.
For example, a player in box #3 may aim at an opponent. If they hit the opponent’s piece, the player then places their piece in box #4 and continues. Shooting opponent may continue throughout the game. The player “sent” must continue to play from where he/she has been “sent”. At the beginning of his/her turn, a current player may call “Double Box” and move their piece to shoot from the immediately adjacent box (i.e., move his/her piece from #5 to #7). Any player may call “No Double Box”, disallowing a double box for the current player’s turn. Moving their piece to another square does not advance their piece in the current numbered sequence. Double-boxing from #5 to #7 does not mean that the player can skip box #6. Only landing a playing piece inside a box or hitting an opponent can advance a player’s piece through the sequence (counting up or down). Once a player reaches box #12, he aims for the box #13 in the center. After making box #13, a player goes backwards, returning to box #12, #11 etc. All the same rules apply to the reverse order (double-boxing, hitting opponents, etc.) When a player lands on the #1 edge box, he again shoots for the center #13 box again. Once the player’s piece lands inside the #13, he/she becomes a “Killer Diller”. A “Killer Diller” must leave the mat and reenter from the starting line at least 4-6 ft. back from the edge of the mat. Once in, a “Killer Diller” plays by shooting an opponent or going through boxes, again starting with box #1. A “Killer Diller” may kill an opponent by hitting him three times. That player is now “dead” and removed from play. If a player (not a Killer Diller) hits a Killer Diller once, he gets 4 boxes. The last player “alive” is the winner.
Storage The mat and playing pieces should be stored in the included storage tube. To keep the mat as flat as possible, roll it up so that the playing side faces out. |
